A look back

Once you've blogged for a few years and have over 1,000 posts, it's easy for things to get lost and can be a little difficult for new readers to find things. 'd really like to get things organized by topic under tabs at the top. For now, I thought I'd start highlighting some of my older posts and projects in an end of the month round up. So here goes " a look back" at August posts in years past.

Looks like I was really into jewelry for while, especially bracelets. Hope you've enjoyed our little trip back in time.

Peanut butter no bake cookies

Recently I did a round up of no bake cookies and treats. Today I'm sharing my take on the peanut butter no bake cookies.

I substituted a cup of sugar in the raw for one of the two cups of sugar and I didn't use nuts. The sugar in the raw gives them the darker color. These are delicious but very sweet. If I make them again, I might use less sugar. Hop over to My Blessed Life and get the recipe to try them out for yourself.

DIY Vehicle trash can

I found this on pinterest yesterday. I really need to to this. It's a plastic cereal container used as a trash can for the vehicle. "Fabulous" find!

And just for thought- my mom had a 1978 Buick when I was growing up. It had its own trash can. Why don't vehicles have those anymore?

Ballard tag knock off

This week I tried making a knock off of some Ballard beverage tags I saw in the catalog. I've had these on my mind all summer. They aren't terribly expensive, but I knew I could make my own for less.

Theirs are wood. Mine are paper. I picked up some tags from Staples from the Martha Stewart Avery line.  I cut the words from vinyl with my Silhouette and stuck them on. Then I used my Xyron machine (does anyone still use theirs?) to laminate them so the paper won't get wet from a sweating pitcher. I replaced the cord in the tags with some jute twine.

I only made four tags. I have no need for the "over 21" tags in my household. We don't consume or serve alcohol here.

Thanks for stopping by. I'll be linking here:

Book page crafts

Good morning and welcome to another "Must Do Monday"- a list of fun ideas to try one day. This week it's all about book pages. Book lovers- don't panic! We're not talking about ripping up a valuable literary work, just those "unheard of" from the thrift store.

I've played with book pages on a small scale before with flowers

but there is so much more you can do with book pages. Let's check out some more ideas.

Back porch makeover

I've kept you in suspense too long. I said I'd be sharing my back porch makeover, so here it is.

I started with a blank pallette, with the exception of the furniture we've had for a few years. All we had was the furniture. No plants, no personality. We did have a light up palm tree, but that was it.

You can tell from the top picture that the first thing I did was go to Lowe's and get some plants to create some container gardens. It was already late in the season, so there wasn't much to choose from but I got some container garden fill-ins for 50% off. Just plop them in a pot and you are done. I got some other plants as well to create my own mix. ( Bella was also helping me lay everything out.)

Here's another before shot.

Now here's those plants:

I picked up the cute little chair plant stand at Wal-Mart. The flip flop candle holder and butterfly lantern came from Pier One. I bought them when I was shopping for the front porch makeover.

A couple of shots of the glider with new pillows. Two were purchased and two are my placemat pillows. I painted an old planter with Krylon fusion to add a pop of yellow.  I can see these things from the morning room window and I just love the view now. You'll notice that we also purchased some rugs. They came from Lowe's.

Now I think the glider area needs a coffee table and an extra chair- maybe next year. You can see more of the table setting  HERE.

Last, here's a few shots of the porch lit up at night.

We've been enjoying our newly decorated space as much as we can in the late evenings. Hopefully, it will be cooling off more so we can spend even more time here.

Healthy eggless breakfast cookies

Yep, you read that correctly- eggless. I'll go ahead and admit I discovered this concept purely by mistake.

I tried out this recipe shared by Love, Pomegranate House. And it's awesome. Even without the eggs.

Let me explain. I don't normally get all the ingredients out ahead of time. I get them out and mix, etc as I go through the steps. So.... I mistakenly skipped step #2 of the recipe and totally missed the eggs and water. I was patting out the last cookie when it struck me as odd that I didn't use any eggs. Oh well, too late. I baked them anyway.

Then I got on Google and searched. Eggless cookies aren't that odd after all. All you need in a recipe  is something to hold it together. And the peanut butter does a great job by itself. So next time, I'll probably leave the eggs out on purpose. I will add the water for a little more moisture, but these really were not hard or dry.

The hubby loved them. He ate two before supper the night I baked them, and two after supper. I tried to stress the fact that these are BREAKFAST cookies, but hey, if he likes them, he can eat them whenever he feels like it.

Give them a try, especially if you are looking for a healthy, portable snack or breakfast food.
